Common questions

How do I add a publication?

Tap Add, then paste a Substack address (like astralcodexten.substack.com) or any RSS feed URL. Pull to refresh and the latest posts download for offline reading. You can also enter your Substack handle during onboarding to pull in the publications you already follow.

Does it really work fully offline?

Yes. Once a post is downloaded (text, images, and podcast audio), reading it makes zero network requests. Airplane mode, the subway, a cabin in the woods: everything you synced is there.

Why can't I read paid subscriber-only posts?

Version 1 of Stacks supports free public posts only. Paid posts appear with a marker and a one-tap link to open the original on Substack, where your subscription works as usual.

How much storage does Stacks use, and how do I manage it?

Settings → Storage shows what's cached and lets you set limits or clear downloads. Old posts are evicted automatically when the cache limit is reached.

How do I delete my data?

Everything lives on your device. Use Settings → Reset All Data in the app, or simply delete the app; nothing remains anywhere else. See the privacy policy for details.

A feed isn't updating. What should I check?
